The "European" shield covered with gold symbolizes eternity. The shield is a symbolic image of the sun. The sun is a symbol of light, life, knowledge. On the upper and lower segment of the shield there is a Georgian and Latin inscription "Knowledge for living".
The symbolic image of the sun printed on the shield is based on a bronze disc-shaped artefact found in village Ereda, Mtskheta region, which is preserved in Gori Historical-Ethnographic Museum and dates back to BC. VIII-VI centuries.
